Game, Set, Match: ABC's First Tennis Event

On a chilly Saturday evening, a group of women gathered on the Mission Bay tennis courts for something completely new — ABC's very first tennis event.
Like many of our events, it started with a simple idea: create a space where women in Auckland could try something new, meet new people, and have fun without any pressure to be good at it.
Some of the women who joined had played tennis before. Others were picking up a racquet for the very first time. But from the moment everyone arrived, skill level didn't matter. The focus wasn't on winning matches or perfecting technique — it was on giving it a go.
There were plenty of missed shots, lots of laughter, and a few surprisingly competitive rallies. More importantly, there were conversations happening between points, new friendships forming, and women encouraging each other every step of the way.
We know trying something for the first time can feel intimidating, especially when it comes to sport. Tennis can seem like one of those activities that everyone else already knows how to play. Our goal was to remove that pressure and create an environment where women felt comfortable learning, making mistakes, and simply enjoying themselves. Thank you to Tennis One for inviting us and holding for space for ABC!
The response to our first tennis event was everything we hoped for. Women came along solo, with friends, and from all different backgrounds, but by the end of the session everyone felt part of the same community.
Seeing so many women step outside their comfort zones reminded us exactly why we started hosting these events in the first place.
And the good news? We're already planning to bring it back.
Our first tennis event showed us there's a real appetite for beginner-friendly social sport, and we're excited to create more opportunities for women to get active, build confidence, and make meaningful connections.
If you've ever wanted to try tennis but didn't know where to start, this is your sign. Keep an eye on our upcoming events — we'll be back on the courts before you know it.
Come solo or bring a friend. Either way, you'll be welcomed in, have a great time, and leave with more than just a new hobby.
